The Era of Disinfection
Today, removing pathogens from surfaces and everyday objects is essential to combat the health emergency.
For 40 years, Lombarda H has been a leader in disinfectant production for hospitals, clinics, and more. Now, more than ever, cleaning and disinfecting surfaces is vital. While masks help prevent the transmission of potentially infected droplets, special attention must also be given to surfaces, where droplets may linger for hours. Thus, a precise strategy for proper cleaning and disinfection of frequently touched surfaces is needed. Begin by wearing protective gloves, cleaning with soap and water to reduce dirt and impurities, and then proceed with disinfection to eliminate germs in the treated area.
Products
Disinfectants differ from sanitizers as their efficacy has been rigorously tested and certified. Disinfectants are classified as Medical-Surgical Aids or Medical Devices, registered with the Ministry of Health or qualified certifying bodies, and have undergone proven efficacy tests. Cleaning and disinfection vary depending on the type of surface—whether solid, fabric, or electronic devices like tablets, touch screens, and ATMs. For such devices, washable covers are recommended, along with following manufacturer instructions. If none are provided, use a hydroalcoholic solution with around 70% alcohol. Frequent cleaning and disinfection are essential for high-contact surfaces where dirt can accumulate.
Daily Life
Disinfection, especially given the current situation, should now be seen as an integral activity involving daily and social life. Everything we touch can pose an infection risk, as hands transfer germs from surfaces to ourselves and others—tables, desks, chairs, handles, light switches, phones, tablets, touch screens, keyboards, public transport handles, toilets, and sinks.
It’s also important to disinfect public spaces like stores, gyms, schools, and community centers. Reducing the risk of infection in our crowded world requires reevaluating daily routines with disinfection in mind. High-traffic places, such as hospitals, care homes, gyms, schools, wellness centers, private homes, and public transport, are essential for disinfectant use. These practices should conclude with glove removal and thorough handwashing. Everyday objects, especially those touched frequently, baby items, and hygiene facilities, require extra care to ensure safe, informed usage by both professionals and the general public.
As life returns to a form of normality, communal spaces must be thoroughly sanitized. For COVID-19, alcohol-based solutions and sodium hypochlorite are particularly effective and widely applicable for environmental and surface disinfection, while alcohol-based solutions are ideal for high-touch areas.
Lombarda H’s hypochlorite is highly active even at low concentrations, ensuring safety while minimizing unpleasant sensory qualities. Produced through electrolysis from rock salt in water and powered by photovoltaic panels, Lombarda H’s high-purity hypochlorite solutions are technologically enhanced for efficiency and sustainability—reimagining a traditional disinfectant for the needs of our time.
